Gulf Photo Plus is pleased to announce the opening of Vivid Dreams and Fragile Machines, a photography exhibition featuring the work of US based artist, Brooke Shaden in the GPP gallery space in Alserkal Avenue, Dubai.
Initially studying film and literature, American born Shaden found her passion for telling stories manifested itself most aptly in the form of still images. Presenting a series of photographs for her first solo show in the region, each image expresses its own narrative, describing a curious world where dreams and nightmares merge.
Each image peers into the lives of characters that the viewer will find both intriguing and bizarre. Taking advantage of your imagination. Inspired by fairy tales and fantasy, Shaden’s work alludes to a hint of mystery and a dark side to the world whilst showing its beauty. This series of images deals with fairy tales of all sorts, featuring bright colors that pop off the paper within dark and de-saturated surroundings, creating a character that is bold and striking.
There is a sense of tension and chaos that grips the viewer. Shaden attempts to place herself within worlds she wishes we could live in, where the unspoken is acted out in the open, and where the impossible becomes possible. Using painterly techniques and a square format, Shaden’s photography questions that which defines her reality, placing the viewer in a unique world that feels both innocent and sinister at the same time. The exhibition stays in GPP gallary from 6 of November to 15 of December.
