Inline with its focus to feature both art and design, Alāan Artspace is proud to host Vitra Miniatures from 5 January to 2 February 2013.
Alāan Artspace is a multi-functional contemporary gallery, educational hub, library, restaurant, shop and coffeehouse located in the heart of Riyadh. Alāan – which means ‘now’ in Arabic – reflects the energy of the art scene in Saudi and the feeling in Riyadh that a space such as this is long overdue.
This touring collection presents 100 of the most important classics of modern furniture history in miniature scale and spans 188 years of seminal furniture design – covering early pioneers like Thonet, Rietveld and Frank Lloyd Wright, modern masters such as Eames, Le Corbusier and Mies van der Rohe, contemporary classics by Frank Gehry and Marcel Wanders, and new icons like the “vegetal” chair by Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec.
Coinciding with Vitra Miniatures, Alāan Artspace will host a panel and workshop with Saudi and regional designers, using the presented models as a jumping off point for discussion.
Exhibition opening: Saturday 5th January 2013 from 7.30 – 9.30 PM
Exhibition dates: 6th January 2013 – 2nd February 2013
